Edit required. this post was a part of our Google weekend index watching project last week. Along with the index itself the results faded away by Weds and Thurs this week (30-10) we’re not really counting this as a victory yet.
Ok bragging is imminent (in a semi seo-philosophical kind of way)
Quite strangely, and with just over 3 weeks to go until our site’s One-year-old birthday (and very likely a lot to do with the next post that will follow on from this one – Google Changes afoot) – one of our inner pages, designed and implemented a good while back to help strengthen the overall cause, has only just gone and made a surprise debut in the SERP and has fairly leapt into the Top 15 for SEO Services this weekend..
.hahahaha!!
.
The odd thing about this though, is that this particular page has been in the site since about June or July, (back whenever we broke it, or hit the Google 950 filters, or whatever it actually was) and this is the first time it has been seen in the SERP, anywhere, apart from site: searches, since then.
It’s at least 3 months old, and has had the toolbar greyed out on it since day 1
Now it’s strong enough to rank in the top 15 for “SEO Services” all of a sudden? lol! Prior to this, the main domain has been hovering around the #50 to #70 mark.
And in the same breath, a brand new page, launched on only the 5th October, targeting SEO Web Design has launched into a reasonably steady #27 – wtf? !!
So this could either be our site reacting strongly to something new Google are testing, with regards to link weighting and onpage relevance balance, our site is sensitive to small changes because of the careful experimental aspects of our content, (or maybe it could be just our site reacting to some huge surge of PR from all our friends linking at us, enthusiastically, should we say? )
The SEO Reike crew would be advising a “PR blockage just got flushed out”:) or something like that, although it must be said we’ve seen some ludicrously silly (strong) results over the last 36 hours too, like..
I hardly think Google seriously thinks we are the definitive post on Credit Crunch packages… but at the time of posting it’s been there firmly above the Daily Telegraph’s entry for 24 hours.
.. & then there’s this one
The search in the screenshot above now has us pegged back at #10 or #11, but showing the new (only 2 week old) SEO web design page instead, not the domain.
I’ll say that again, 2 weeks old. First page for Small Business SEO Web Design Services, ..a combination phrase spreading across 3 mildly competitive seo & web design phrases: ..”small business seo”, “seo web design”, and “web design services”.
It remains to be seen if this is more SAS (Saturdays & Sundays) than SBS Sniper - is our site just a Google weekend index warrior or will it last do we think?
..a sign of things to come, or random results that don’t mean much? If it doesn’t hold, it doesn’t matter, we’re just going to keep doing our stuff, and it’ll be back.
We also think we may have conclusively proved that the greyed out toolbar does not mean you’re in the supplemental index?
whatever, we made organic top 20 for SEO Services on Google.com in less than 12 months, and we’re not finished yet, 3 weeks left yet, first page.. hmm..
..Much as we would like to see this as our site just flexing the walls of the matrix, it’s not that, lets just say we think:
“thar’s something big just over them thar hills coming this way …”
Update: it might just be us with that mighty surge after all, this morning has certain DCs now showing us at #4!!
click the thumbnail. ..looks like we did it, first page, however fleetingly it turns out, for SEO Services within one year. we can hardly believe it.
Now for SEO, the big one.. mwuahahaha!!

Hey Kev:
Good to see you taken over the SERPs one stem at a time. I have an idea why this is the case, and have similarly seen pages sharing the SERPs for common denominator terms.
Three things:
1) The fact that your own site is producing its own rankings limited link loss and internal linking.
2) External links are passing less weight, since your site is built to reinforce itself, aged pages are now gaining buoyancy.
3) Because the links you have are natural and have authority.
We finally back in the top 10 for SEO ourselves and had to creep up slowly from June when the metrics changed.
Good job my friend, I see you guys with double listings all over the place, nice linking…
All the best,
Jeffrey
Hey Jeff
good effort, if there’s anyone who deserves to be top 10 for that it’s you dude.
(that’s why I edited your comment to add a link saying just that, call it an editorial vote.
)
we seem to have boinged back down from the #40’s to the #90’s for that but it’s all fun and games isnt it?
there’s certainly some interesting goings on. do you think it’s just us or a serp wide thing?
I think it might be big G’s next surprise for us.
