Edit 07-11-08 - Index today reverted to previous build. a rollback?

So we’ve been writing about these wierd and erroneous google searches for a couple of weeks now, speculating that there is an algo tweak on the way and were assured by Mr Cutts on Monday that it was just a google glitch and would all be back to normal shortly.

For a brief period of time it did look like that was happening, but since then it now looks more like they merged that data with the old index to us.

You can see the clear shift on our site here, not just downwards but large rises in actually much tougher searches than most of the drops.

There was talk on webmaster world of index pages, ie your homepage going missing, and inner pages ranking instead and this was the kind of behaviour we saw over the weekend.

However now it’s kind of like a mixture of the 2 behaviours and three separate indexes that we can see. The homepage is there clear and strong in some searches. There’s the one in America through a US proxy hidemyass.com where the main domain is currently ranking a staggering #20-21 for SEO. Go us.

Then over on this wierd new index, across most DCs the main domain isn’t showing for this search at all, it’s our old friend and warrior page Superior SEO, holding at a steady #40. lol.

However in the new Google, this page has gone absolutely mad, amazingly so.

Because while it is holding up the rear guard action for the missing homepage with “SEO” it is also simultaneously ranking at anywhere between #4 and #7 for * SEO services *, and #5 for * Superior *

Hahahaha damn I know we’re good ands would like to claim this, but this definitely isn’t right.

Although its most amusing that this particular page should randomly go on a rampage into into the SEO services search in the dying moments of our SEO demo challenge One year time limit, and then even on into the dizzy heights of one word keyword first page stardom.

Thank you Google thank you

Mentioned in dispatches? - whether it survives the battle or not it’s George Cross material that one, could do with a few more like him..

Anyway back to the more serious stuff, what we can see is across the board drops on Google.com on most sites on a certain word or two. Speculation about what’s changed past that is a bit pointless until it settles down and stays or reverts back again.

what’s everybody else seeing, you all normal and happy?

The latest from Webmaster world is here

edit 07-11-2008.- Previous Index returns today..
