And unlike the mythical “sandbox” of old, this one does exist!
It’s the new test URL announced on their blog for the Google “Caffeine” project, which from what we can see is supposed to be a major re-write of the system “under the hood”
Google say:
“For the last several months, a large team of Googlers has been working on a secret project: a next-generation architecture for Google’s web search,” two engineers wrote in the company’s official blog.
“It’s the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions. The new infrastructure sits ‘under the hood’ of Google’s search engine, which means that most users won’t notice a difference in search results. But web developers and power searchers might notice a few differences, so we’re opening up a web developer preview to collect feedback.”

our site was launched a few months ago and for the domain name search without the .co.uk on the end did come up first.. after about 6 weeks it dropped to 2nd page then finally down to fifth… after about another 4 weeks it jumped right up to no1 on google for domain name search…. would that be a temporary sandbox on a new site?
… and looking on new search we drop 2 places
hello Blackburn.
I rescued your comments from Akismet, have you been on a blog commenting binge?
you’ve been tagged, you need to contact them and get your email address removed from their list.
re your comment on the new site, no it’s not a sandbox its just Google trying to work out where you should rank, its a bouncy process, pay no attention to rankings for the 1st 6-8 weeks would be our advice.
thanks for the tip, as well as being new to seo and the wonders of internet rankings we are new to blogs also.. not been on a binge, but are on a learning curve and have had a few questions on seo and website design… we have found this site and others to be a great help so thanks for the advise re akismet… another thing i never heard of as a newbie!! have contacted them, i wondered why i posted a comment and it disappeared!
I like the results of Google Caffeine, and it’s good Google will apply it after holiday season.
